Life Lessons Learned at “Worlds of Fun”

Aug 03, 2023

After Zara finished her last day of 3rd grade we decided to make it a family tradition to go to the amusement park Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. After spending the day riding every ride and living our best lives it made me think…. There are some great life lessons to apply from this experience.

1. Embrace Fun and Adventure:

Worlds of Fun is full of thrills and heart-pumping activities. It made me think about how often I have a sense of adventure and fun in my everyday life. I think there is great power in embracing adventure in life and seeking out new experiences that bring you joy.

2. Be Present:

We were waiting for a really long time for a ride, and it happened to be about double the time that was listed on the ride. Instead of being checked out, scrolling social media, or complaining we decided to embrace the joy and be present. We met this awesome family of 6 grandkids and a “Grammy” and “Papa”. We played games the entire time and had the BEST TIME waiting in that line. We truly embraced the present.

3. Overcome Fears:

I believe that in life we can either walk the path of love or walk the path of fear. There is no better place on earth than a series of roller coasters to test this exact theory. Once we got to the park, Zara got a little scared and didn’t want to ride the Boomerang. The ride is designed to make you twist upside down several times and then force you to ride the entire ride again…. but backward! I was a little scared too, but after about 30 minutes of pep talks, Zara was able to muster up the courage to give it a try. When she finished the ride, she beamed with pride and immediately wanted to ride it again! Sometimes overcoming our fears brings an incredible sense of confidence and pride.

4. Connect with Others:

In this day and age, we are all too connected to our phones and devices. Theme parks like Worlds of Fun are great places to connect with people and make new memories. Much to no one’s surprise, I struck up conversations with fellow visitors and forged new friendships at every turn. It was also a great way for us to now have a new family tradition!

5. Take Five:

Having a break from the hustle and bustle of life is important. On the way home Zara said that she really wants to do this once a year, just us. We didn’t have Zara bring a friend because we wanted to reinforce the importance of making memories together as a family. It is important for us to recognize that taking time out of our normal lives to have some joy and fun helps us to maintain balance in life.

I hope our fun little family trip to Kansas City helped you think about bringing a sense of adventure to your day, being present, having some courage to overcome fear, making meaningful connections with others and taking a little time to smell the churros and enjoy the ride!

Love and Light my friends,

Kara
