Sailing Through Life with Ease

Aug 03, 2023

During my recent travels to Seattle, on the only sunny day of the trip, I had the privilege of witnessing the beautiful sight of sailboats gliding across the shimmering waters. It was a truly awe-inspiring experience that made me think about how it compares to navigating life’s challenges and learning to ride the waves of life.

1. Being in Flow

Flow is a state of optimal performance where we feel fully immersed, energized, and focused. When we are in flow we can get lost in the activity for hours not even realizing it. Have you ever done something you are naturally good at and hours later you say to yourself, “Wow, time flew by, I can’t believe I was doing that for so long.” Find something that lights you up this week and be in flow.

2. Aligning with the Currents

Much like a skilled sailor adjusts their sails to catch the prevailing winds, it feels empowering when we align with our passions and strengths to harness the power of flow. Once you find something that “lights you up” ride the currents. When you find a fast path, use it to accomplish bursts of work. When it slows, slow with it and enjoy the time to rest and recharge.

3. Overcoming Obstacles and Challenges

Obstacles can disrupt the flow, but with focused attention and mindfulness, we can navigate around them. When a rock or boulder or storm comes your way, take a moment to assess the situation. Be present in the moment and decide what path you can take to minimize the obstacle. By honoring our ability to stay present, we create space for flow to emerge.

4. Embracing the Unexpected

Just as a sailor embraces the unexpected twists and turns on their journey, we can do this on our life path too. Sometimes the most unexpected things become our biggest blessings. I can’t tell you how many times my well-charted path was disrupted by a turn I wasn't expecting. By embracing openness, adaptability, and a change of plans, my life became richer and more aligned. By embracing the unexpected, we can flow to where we are meant to be with more ease.

5. Enjoy the Journey

By finding the sweet spot between effort and relaxation, we sail through life with renewed energy and joy. The true beauty of life lies in savoring the journey rather than fixating on the destination. When we practice gratitude, mindfulness, and embracing the present moment, life is better.

Being in Seattle and enjoying the captivating sight of sailboats on the water, inspired me to reflect on the voyage of self-discovery. Let us sail through life with ease, harnessing the transformative potential of flow as we navigate the waves of living a life of alignment, ease and fulfillment.

Love and light my friends,

Kara
